Women's Squash Advances to LL Championship With Wins Over Bard and Haverford

The St. Lawrence University women's squash team swept Bard in the first match of the day, then beat Haverford in the second at the Liberty League Championships at the Robie Squash Center to advance to Sunday's Championship match.

Match 1: St. Lawrence 8, Bard 0

In the day's opening match, the Saints faced little resistance winning all three matches 3-0.

At one, Angel Otshabeng took on Tarana Downer and easily claimed an 11-1, 11-1, 11-3 win. At two Madeleine Martin faced Thenuri DeSilva and also swept by the score of 11-5, 11-2, 11-3.

In the third spot, Meg Pruett dominated her way to an 11-4, 11-2, 11-2 win over Nioby Rodriguez in 12 minutes. Not to be outdone, Mariam Dodd took on Meherin Hossain at number four and took her 11-5, 11-0, 11-2 win in 11 minutes.

At five, Laura Franz defeated Hanna Okalava 11-5, 11-1, 11-3, then at six, Khissaiyia Spencer won all three games 11-1 to sweep Thema Williams. In the final two spots, Emma Kahle and Azaa Regmi completed the sweep with wins. Kahle won her match 11-1, 11-2, 11-1, while Regmi won 11-1, 11-9, 11-2.

Match 2: St. Lawrence 6, Haverford 3

Haverford took three wins from the Saints, all in the bottom third of the lineup, while St. Lawrence took six wins in the top two-thirds of the lineup.

Otshabeng took her second win of the day from the number one spot taking on Ariana Solecki by the score of 11-6, 11-4, 11-7. At two, Martin won the first game 11-9 but fell in the second game 11-9 to tie the contest. Martin claimed the last two 11-4, 11-7 to take the win.

Pruett, Dodd, and Franz all took their second 3-0 wins of the day in the three through five spots respectively to bring the Saints to five wins on the day. Spencer, who was in the sixth spot, took on Caroline Gay and lost the opening game 11-8. Spencer came back with 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 wins to take the 3-1 victory.

The Scarlet and Brown will line up against Denison for the Liberty League title tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in the Robie Squash Center.
