Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

The Skating Saints Fall at No. 14 Quinnipiac; Arquiett Scores In the Effort

Senior Will Arquiett scored his fourth goal of the season late in the game, but the Bobcats rode a hot start to the end as the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team fell 6-1 to No. 14 Quinnipiac on Friday night in Hamden, Conn.

With the loss, St. Lawrence fell to 8-18-1 and 4-10-1 in the ECAC, while the Bobcats improved to 17-8-2 and 11-3-1 in league play.

Things fell apart quickly for the Saints, as Quinnipiac raced out to an early 3-0 lead. Mason Marcellus found the back of the net a minute and eight seconds into the game, followed by goals from his linemates Chris Pelosi and Aaron Schwartz, who made it 3-0 at the 7:22 mark.

Mason Kucenski, who started the game, was chased from the contest and was replaced by Dominic Basse.

The team's timeout and goalie change stabilized play in the first period and the Saints looked like they reached the scoreboard in the final two minutes.

Senior captain Drake Burgin was head-manning the puck into the Quinnipiac zone and got a shot off on Matej Marinov. The shot was saved and covered but was knocked free by a defender and was buried by Reilly Connors. The play was reviewed and reversed, keeping the Saints off the board.

St. Lawrence had some momentum from the end of the first and had some chances from Arquiett, Gunnar Thoreson, and Tyler Cristall, but couldn't find twine. Instead, the Bobcats' Tyler Borgula scored on a rebound chance to make it 4-0.

Quinnipiac extended their lead in the third period with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of action to further put the game out of reach.

The Scarlet and Brown found the scoreboard late in the game with a minute and fifty seconds to go. Cayden Casey ushered a pass to Felikss Gavars in the defensive zone and the junior carried the puck into the Bobcat zone. The forward found Arquiett, who fired a wrist shot through a screen and in to make it 6-1. The assist was the first career point for Casey, who joined the team in 2025.

Kucenski made four saves in limited action, while Basse stopped 26 shots in 52:38 of play. Marinov made 15 saves in the opposing goal.

St. Lawrence went 1-for-1 killing penalties but was not afforded a power play in the game.

The Skating Saints will be back in action tomorrow at 7 p.m. when the team travels to Hobey Baker Rink to take on Princeton.
