The Saints were able to take a point in doubles play but were able to take just one win in singles as the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team fell 5-2 to Rochester on Sunday in the Newell Field House.
The Scarlet and Brown fell to 1-2 with the loss. Â
In doubles play, the Saints won the point with a pair of wins at one and two. In the one spot,
Edvin Strandberg and
John Hill-Edgar combined to defeat Kavin Shukla and Alan Wang 6-2, while
Broderick Pinto and
Jake David took a 6-3 victory in the two spot against Josh Chu and Andy Liu.
Rochester came back in singles play, taking five of the six matches. First-year
Ryan Tingley took the lone for Saints at number six. The newcomer matched up with Chu and opened with a 6-3 match win. The visitor won the second set, but Tingley came back with a 6-1 win to seal the match.
After winning in doubles Strandberg and Hill-Edgar both had tough battles in singles. Strandberg, who was in the one spot against Vennam, dropped the first set but tied the match with a 6-4 win of his own before falling in the third. Hill-Edgar won his first set 6-4 against Ravi but dropped the next two in the loss.
The Scarlet and Brown will play two more matches next weekend before going on their Spring Break trip in Orlando, Fla. The Saints will host Daemen College next Saturday before playing in their first Liberty League match against Bard on Sunday. Â Â
