The St. Lawrence University women's tennis faced little resistance on the day securing a pair of 7-0 wins over Saint Michael's and SUNY Oneonta on Saturday at the Newell Field House.
St. Lawrence improved to 2-0 to start their spring semester schedule.
In the first match against Saint Michael's, the Scarlet and Brown opened the match with three doubles wins from the tandems of
Molly Jespersen/
Eleanor McDermed (6-1),
Ariane Karera/
Yvette Karera (6-0), and
Elisa Iuri/
Abigail Sicuranza (6-2) to earn the match's first point.
In singles, all six would claim their second win of the day to secure the 7-0 sweep.
The team deployed a new lineup in the second match versus Oneonta but found similar results. In doubles, the pairs of
Maya Stepic/
Sarah Oldland (6-1), and
Ashlyn Strobel/
Kate Butler (6-0) took dominant wins, while
Alexandra Fuller and
Ellie Fritz fought to a tight 7-6 (4) win over Danielle Copp and Annika Cripe at number two.
Much like the day's first match, all six Saints doubled up in the win column to secure the sweep.
The Scarlet and Brown will look to keep the ball rolling next weekend when the team plays host to the University of Rochester on February 23 at the Newell Field House.
