First-year Jamie Rosenzweig scored with two minutes and 47 seconds left in the second overtime to lift the No. 11 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 12-11 double overtime win over Western New England to open the 2025 season on Saturday morning in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Sophomore Daniel Mahoney led the Saints with four goals, while Wells added a goal and three assists. Sean Wiseman also scored two goals, while Zack Corsi, David Herlihy, Cam Croasdaile, Caleb Torres and Jamie Rosenzweig each added one.

A tight battle from the start, the Golden Bears scored first on a goal from Josh Gagnon. St. Lawrence hung onto the advantage after the first 15 minutes of play, holding a 3-2 lead on goals from Mahoney, Wiseman and Torres.

The Saints got the jump early in the second with Mahoney's second of the game at 13:52. Croasdaile and Corsi also scored to give the Saints a 6-4 lead at the half.

Western New England closed the gap after the third and brought the game back within one at 8-7. They scored about a minute and a half into the fourth to tie things up 8-8.

After trading the next few goals, Wells scored on the man-up to put the Saints back into control at 10-9.

Gagnon was the one to send the game to overtime, as he scored with 1:19 to play in the fourth quarter.

The first four-minute overtime remained scoreless, sending the game into a double-overtime thriller. A forced turnover by Michael Miele started a run by Mahoney. Mahoney dished it off for Wells, who went for the bounce pass to Rosenzweig for the game winner.

"As I told the staff early in the week, we want to end the day with one more than they do," said head coach Mike Mahoney. "Considering we had not been outside on a full field until this trip,  I was really proud of the resiliency and toughness from the guys to find a way. We will obviously learn a ton from this experience and continue to get better. All in all, both teams battled really hard for 60+ minutes."

"Thank you so much to all the families and the overwhelming alumni support who made the day very special!"

Thomas Labbe and Gagnon led the Golden Bears with three goals each, while Ryan Quinlan picked up a team-best six ground balls.

Michael Marinello recorded 11 saves in the win, while Braden Civiello tallied four for Western New England.

Western New England led 22-16 in shots on goal, while each team each recorded one goal on the man-up ride.

The win put the Saints at 1-0 to start the season, while WNE moved to 0-1.

St. Lawrence will travel to Cortland to take on the Red Dragons on Saturday, February 22.
