First-year forward
Gabe Westling scored his first career goal, but a four-goal third period from the Raiders sent the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team to a 6-1 on Saturday night in Appleton Arena.
St. Lawrence fell to 8-17-1 overall with the loss and 4-9-1 in ECAC play, while Colgate improved to 14-10-2 and 9-4-1 in league action.
Before the contest and during the first intermission, the men's hockey program honored the 25
th anniversary of the 1999-2000 Skating Saints, who won the ECAC Championship and advanced all the way to the NCAA Frozen Four thanks to a 3-2 four-overtime win against Boston University in the NCAA Tournament.Â

The contest started with the ice tilted in favor of the Saints, who were controlling play and getting a majority of the offensive chances.
The momentum was only snatched from St. Lawrence when they were issued a penalty to kill off. The Saints would kill off the chance and were tasked with a second kill later in the first which was successful to make it 0-0 at intermission.
The penalties continued to come early in the second period and this time it cost the Saints. Just 3:09 into the second period the Raiders got a power play goal from Brett Chorske to take the lead.
The Skating Saints would come back to form nicely taking the play to Colgate but instead of finding an equalizer, the Raiders took a 2-0 lead at the 17:06 mark with a goal from Simone Dadie.
St. Lawrence was able to strike back in short order however with a goal 47 seconds later.
Jan Lasak pushed the puck up the left wing and skipped a pass to Westling as they entered the offensive zone. The first bid was blocked, but the first-year stuck with it roofing a wrist shot for his first goal as a Saint and making it a 2-1 game at the second intermission.
The Saints finally got their first power play in the physical contest late in the second period, but they were unable to equalize. Instead, moments after the power play, the Raiders' Owen Nueharth made it 3-1 with a goal at the 1:30 mark.
St. Lawrence kept attacking and had another power play in the first half of the period but couldn't gain any ground on the scoreboard.
The game would slip away after the TV timeout when Colgate got a goal at 16:14 from Reid Irwin. That goal was followed by an empty-net goal and another late tally to close out the contest.
Mason Kucenski stopped 21 shots in the loss, while Andrew Takacs came up with 35 in the visiting goal.
The Skating Saints will be back in action next weekend when the team heads to Quinnipiac and Princeton on February 7-8 for their penultimate road trip of the regular season.
