Saints Improve to 2-0 with Road Win at Oswego State

The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team remained unbeaten with a 65-58 win over Oswego State on Tuesday night at Laker Hall in Oswego, N.Y.

St. Lawrence improved to 2-0 on the season, while Oswego dropped to 0-1.

The Saints jumped out to a strong start, using Elizabeth Flynn layups and successful trips to the free throw line to take a 24-15 lead after the first quarter. St. Lawrence also hit four early three-pointers in the opening period and forced five turnovers to set the tone.

Oswego battled back in the second quarter, cutting into the deficit by outscoring the Saints 15-12 in theframe. They got the lead down to four, but a late jumper in the paint from first-year Stevie Bannon gave the Saints a 36-30 advantage at halftime.

After the break, St. Lawrence clamped down defensively, holding the Lakers to just eight points in the third quarter while extending the lead to double digits. The Saints carried a 50-38 advantage into the final frame.

Oswego made a late push in the fourth, outscoring St. Lawrence 20–15, but the Saints hit key free throws and came up with timely stops to close out the win.

Flynn led St. Lawrence with 17 points, 12 rebounds, four steals, and three assists for her second straight double-double. Jackie Malley and Annie Perry each scored 15 points, combining for six three-pointers. Mason Baker-Schlendering added eight points, seven rebounds, and five steals, while Norah Niesz chipped in six points and two assists.

The Saints shot 23-68 from the field and 7-27 from three, while using strong, cohesive defensive play to limit Oswego to 32 pe rcent shooting. They also forced 20 turnovers.

The Saints return to action for a midweek contest on Tuesday, November 18 when they host Plattsburgh State for their next non-conference matchup at Burkman Gymnasium.
