Offense Records 11 Shots, Saints Support the Fight Against Breast Cancer at Power of Pink Game Against Rochester

Maja Helmer had three shots on goal and Maddy Shaw added a pair, as the St. Lawrence University field hockey team stuck with No. 22 nationally ranked Rochester but fell 2-0 on a hot Sunday afternoon in Canton, N.Y.

The Saints fall to 0-2 in league play with the defeat, and 3-6 overall as they continue with their home conference loop.

"I'm just so proud of the way we battled against one of the best teams in the country today," said Saints head coach Fran Grembowicz. "We created plenty of scoring opportunities and held strong defensively. Our midfield play was very good and we carried a lot of the play with possession in the offensive zone."

.
St. Lawrence also supported the fight against breast cancer with their annual Power of Pink game in their first home game of October, breast cancer awareness month. It's an annual event since 2010 where funds are raised for the Gouverneur Breast & Ovarian Cancer Fund, an organization that assists those fighting those cancers in the North Country. The Saints wore pink uniforms for the contest.

In opening quarter, St. Lawrence had the advantage and held Rochester shotless. Kara Houston kept the Yellowjackets in the game with four saves in the opening frame. In the second, Erin Foley redirected a pass by Cori Freundlich to make it 1-0 Rochester right before the break. Shots were dead even at 7-7 at half.

Rochester would add an insurance goal in the 39th minute, with Elena Mendoza getting on the board.

St. Lawrence will host Rensselaer Saturday, October 11th for their senior day.
