Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to No. 22 William Smith in Midweek Matchup

Zoe Davenport tied her career-high with seven saves on the day, but the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team fell 4-0 to nationally ranked No. 22 William Smith College in a Liberty League contest on Wednesday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

St. Lawrence fell to 7-5-3 with the loss and 3-3-0 in Liberty League play, while the Herons improved to 10-2-2 and 6-1-0 in league action.

The Scarlet and Brown had to weather the storm early in the contest as William Smith came out strong. Despite the pressure, Davenport only faced one shot in the opening minute and made the stop.

St. Lawrence turned things around and began to apply pressure of their own. Meredith Donahue saw her first shot of the game stopped by Antonia Goerke, while her second shot, and a bid from Lilly Stone, missed the woodwork.

Midway through the half, Nell Dwyer turned a Saints' pass over and fired a long shot past Davenport to take the 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

Kaitlyn Barton, Zoe Rogan, and Maddie Needham all had chances to tie the contest, but the game would be 1-0 at the half thanks to three saves from Goerke.

The Herons wasted little time extending their lead in the second half with a goal from Julia Bragg in the 47th minute and Grace Metzler in the 58th minute to make it 3-0.

St. Lawrence kept pushing despite the adversity and was able to create offensive chances. Chloe Bourque saw her long chance stymied by the keeper in the 57th minute, then less than two minutes later, Donahue saw her shot ring off the woodwork to keep the Saints off the board.

In the 65th minute, the Scarlet and Brown were afforded a dangerous free kick chance just outside the box when a Heron fouled Kiki D'Anza. Rogan took the kick but saw her shot sail over the crossbar.

William Smith tacked on a fourth goal later to further put the game away.

Davenport tied her career-high with seven saves on the day, while her counterpart Goerke stopped all eight she faced in 73:39 of action. Sevilla Anderson came in for the final 16:21 and made a lone save to preserve the combined shutout.

Both teams had 16 shot attempts, while the Herons led 11-9 in shots on frame.

St. Lawrence will be back on Sandy MacAllaster Field on Saturday, October 25, when the team hosts RPI in their final home match of the regular season at 2:30 p.m. The program will be celebrating senior day on Saturday, before the match, honoring the nine members of the Class of 2026.
