Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Keenan's First-Half Strike Lifts Women's Soccer Past RIT 1-0

Junior defender Sydney Keenan scored early in the match and junior goalkeeper Zoe Davenport locked it down with a clean sheet, as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team earned a 1–0 road win over RIT in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints improved to 7-4-3 overall and 3-2-0 in conference action, while the Tigers fell to 5-3-6, 2-3-1.

"Incredibly proud of the team's performance today against a very well-coached RIT side," said Saints head coach Dima Kaliakin. "We defended with great belief and discipline throughout the match and were able to create a couple of good scoring opportunities from that solid defensive work. It was a great team win, especially in such an important part of the season."

The win pulls the Saints ahead of RIT for fifth in the conference standings as playoffs loom.

Keenan broke the deadlock in the ninth minute with a brilliant strike, curling a shot through the keeper and making it 1-0. The goal marked her first of the season and stood as the game-winner, giving St. Lawrence an early lead that they would not relinquish.

RIT responded by controlling much of the possession, outshooting the Saints 11–6 and earning four corner kicks to SLU's two. Despite the pressure, the Saints' back line held firm, anchored by Davenport's six-save clean sheet.

In addition to Keenan's mark, the Saints had Kylie Burnett, Kaitlyn Barton and Kiki D'Anza each add a shot on goal in the contest.

St. Lawrence now gears up for a tough test, set to face William Smith on Wednesday, October 22 in their second-last Liberty League fixture of the season.
