The St. Lawrence University women's soccer team got a goal from senior captain
Meredith Donahue, who scored for the fourth straight game, but dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 19 Vassar College on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
With the loss, the Saints moved to 6-4-3 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play, while Vassar improved to 11-2-0 and remained unbeaten in the league at 5-0-0.
Vassar struck early with two goals in the opening eight minutes. Riley McGrath opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finishing a pass from Ava Holman, who then scored herself just two minutes later off a feed from McGrath.
St. Lawrence responded in the 17th minute when Donahue netted her fifth goal of the season, assisted by
Chloe Bourque, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Bourque's pass came from a corner kick and the ball fell right into Donahue, who buried the shot past Laura Shea.
The Saints pushed for an equalizer before the end of the half, but couldn't strike pay dirt.
Vassar added two more goals in the second half. Gianna Panarelli scored in the 49th minute, and Sonya Franklin capped the scoring in the 65th minute off a pass from Elena Valle to make it 4-1.
St. Lawrence made a push late in the contest with a fury of shots but was unable to mount any comeback on the scoreboard.
Goalkeeper
Zoe Davenport made six saves in the loss, while Shea turned aside eight in the opposing goal.
St. Lawrence out chanced the Brewers 20-13, while Vassar led in shots on frame at 10-9.
St. Lawrence returns to action next Saturday, October 18, when the Saints travel to RIT to take on the Tigers in a 3 p.m. match.
