Six goals from six different players gave the St. Lawrence University field hockey team a resounding 6-0 win over Keuka Saturday afternoon in Keuka Park, N.Y.
The win is the second in a row for St. Lawrence, who now hold a 3-4 record as they continue to condition for conference play.
"Today was a total team effort," said Saints head coach
Fran Grembowicz. "It took an entire half for us to shake our bus legs out, but once we did we settled in nicely. Excited for Peyton, who got her first collegiate shutout."
It did take 30 minutes for St. Lawrence to break the ice on a goal by
Maggie Spire, but once they did, the floodgates opened.
Lily Gubbins scored 40 seconds later to make it 2-0, then
Caroline Hamilton made it 3-0 at 33:03.
Sydney LeClair got her first goal of the season at 39:18, and St. Lawrence had two more goals about a minute apart, when
Hannah Gubbins and
Garen Steiner each notched their first career collegiate goals.
Peyton Emory was solid between the pipes – she registered one save. St. Lawrence outshot Keuka 26-5 in the contest.
St. Lawrence next plays at Skidmore, as they open conference play Saturday, September 28 with the road matchup.
