Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Four Saints Score; Men's Soccer Blanks Canton 4-0

The Saints got four goals from four different scores on the day as the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team defeated SUNY Canton 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

St. Lawrence leveled their record at 2-2-1, while the Roos fell to 1-5-0.

The goal-scoring got started early with the Scarlet and Brown going on top in the eighth minute. Senior captain Owen Lillis was the catalyst playing a ball in from the wing to Henry Brown. The sophomore did the rest settling the ball and finishing past Jason Vela to claim the 1-0 lead.

Roughly eight minutes later, another captain in Sam Pijpers got the action going as he charged into the box. The fifth-year was fouled in the box putting him on the dot. Pijpers blasted a right-footed ball to the top right corner to double the St. Lawrence advantage.

In the 25th minute, it became a three-goal game off a tremendous individual effort from Ryan Campbell. Normally on the wing, Campbell forced a Roos turnover on the center dot and made Canton pay. Campbell took the ball down the pitch, past a group of defenders, and faked out the goalkeeper to put the team up 3-0 before the half.

The Saints would score their fourth of the game in the 54th minute. Max Mogul was working on a defender on the left side of the field and broke through towards the goal. Mogul put a shot on goal that was redirected by Gustav Scheibler and in to make it a 4-0 game. The goal was the first in the career of the sophomore Scheibler.

St. Lawrence would get a few more chances later in the half but the clock hit 90 ending the contest at 4-0.

George Charalambous earned the clean sheet stopping the lone shot he faced. Vela stopped five shots in the Canton net, while Nolan Sullivan made seven saves in relief of Vela in the second half.

The Scarlet and Brown dominated to a 36-1 shot advantage, including 18-1 on the frame. St. Lawrence also led 12-2 in corner kicks.

The Saints will play another North Country opponent next Saturday, September 21 when the team heads to SUNY Potsdam to take on the Bears at Maxcy Hall Turf Field.
