Hamilton, Ward Score in 4-2 Saints Loss to Lebanon Valley

Caroline Hamilton and Gracen Ward had a goal apiece for the St. Lawrence University field hockey team, and Cara Vredenburg made eight saves, but they ultimately dropped their first contest of the William Smith Tournament to Lebanon Valley College 4-2 Saturday afternoon.

Formidable Lebanon Valley remained undefeated with the victory, improving to 4-0 on the season. It was their third time scoring four or more goals so far this year.

"Cara played really well. We got our backs against the wall early and by the third and fourth quarter we were starting to generate some quality offense," said Fran Grembowicz, the Saints' head coach. "We finished with some momentum which we will use for tomorrow's game."

Lebanon Valley began the game scoring four goals, and the Saints added the last two. In the second half, Caroline Hamilton fired home a rebound on her first shot of the game, scoring her team-leading third goal of the season. She now holds a three-game goal streak.

The Saints kept chipping away at the large Dutchmen lead in the fourth quarter, and were successful with Ward scoring her first St. Lawrence goal on another rebound.

Lebanon Valley outshot St. Lawrence 19-5 in the game, but the Saints and Dutchmen had three shots apiece in the fourth quarter.

St. Lawrence returns to action at the William Smith Tournament against Kean Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
