Caroline Hamilton added her team-leading fourth goal of the 2024 season, but a last-minute goal by Kean handed the St. Lawrence University field hockey team a 3-2 loss to wrap up the William Smith Tournament Sunday morning.
The loss brings St. Lawrence to an overall record of 1-4.
Kean began the game by opening the scoring just five minutes into the game, after Kelsey Corbett took a pass from Jazmyne Frack and fired it home. But the Saints had a response. Right after Kean scored,
Lily Gubbins evened the game at 1-1 32 seconds later.
The game remained deadlocked until the 21
st minute, when Shannon Conroy re-took the lead for the Cougars. Then, eight minutes later, Hamilton notched her goal to tie the game at 2-2 again.
The score remained that way until the dying minutes of the contest. Corbett scored again on the final shot of the game for either team, giving Kean a 3-2 lead at 59:01.
That put an end to an evenly matched game, in which the score was tied for 51 of the 60 minutes played. First-year
Peyton Emory got her first start of the year in goal for the Scarlet and Brown, registering five saves on the day.
It's a quick turnaround for St. Lawrence, who now hosts Utica in a midweek contest Wednesday, September 18 at Hall-Leet Stadium.
