Murphy, Mahoney & Mahoney Awarded Liberty League Major Awards; Eight Earn All-League Honors

Senior attackman Judge Murphy was named Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year, while Daniel Mahoney was named the Rookie of the Year, head coach Mike Mahoney was tabbed Coach of the Year and eight Saints earned All-Liberty League honors for the St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Along with Offensive Performer of the Year honors, Murphy was also awarded a First-Team selection, along with short-stick midfielder Caleb Torres and defenseman Tripp Clark. Bobby Wells, Paddy Condon and Michael Marinello all earned Second-Team honors, while Ben Hutchinson and Alex Bechard earned Honorable Mention accolades.

In his 27th season with the Scarlet and Brown, Coach Mahoney led the Saints to the best start in program history at 11-0 and to a 14-2 regular season record, finishing 6-1 in Liberty League play to earn a share of the regular season title.

"It is nice to see a number of our players get recognition from the coaches in the league," said Mahoney. "Team success usually couples with some individual awards, yet every single one of them would take wins on the field over all-league honors."

Murphy, topped the fifth-ranked Saints lineup with 56 goals and 25 assists for 81 points on the season thus far. He has scored five game winners, two man-up goals, picked up 36 ground balls and caused three turnovers. At the end of the regular season, Murphy ranked second in the league with 3.44 goals per game, sixth with 1.56 assists per game and tops the league with 5.00 points per game. His 5.00 points per game ranked 30th nationally, the highest of any Liberty League school. He earned Offensive Performer of the Week, USILA Team of the Week and USA Lacrosse National Player of the Week honors on March 18th, was a three-time honor roll selection. He was the first in Saints lacrosse history to be added to the Tewaarton Award Watch List and surpassed 200 career points on March 30th. He currently ranks seventh on the Saints' all-time scoring list with 227 points and third all-time with 146 goals.

"Judge is our first offensive player of the year winner since our all-time leading scorer, Conor Healey in 2016. He certainly deserves to be mentioned with him as one of the program's all-time best offensive players. I am excited he will finish his Saints career in the NCAA Tournament."

Mahoney ranks third on the Saints' lineup this season with 24 goals and seven assists for 31 points. He has scored one game winner, two man-up goals, picked up 27 ground balls and caused seven turnovers. Despite missing four games with an injury, he scored 10 goals in the last four regular-season conference games of the season and ranked ninth in the conference stats with 2.50 goals per game. He was a three-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week.

"After a good first half of the season, Daniel has shown great resiliency, after being sidelined mid-season with an injury. Since his return, he has been very productive for us down the stretch in some key moments," Mahoney added.

Torres, a dominant force in the midfield, recorded 26 ground balls, caused 13 turnovers, scored two goals and assisted on two others for four points on the season.

Both his goals against average and save percentage lead the Liberty League and rank fifth and seventh nationally, respectively. He was named Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week on March 4th and was an honor roll selection on March 11th.

Hutchinson ranked eighth in the league with 2.38 goals per game, sixth with 4.06 points per game and fifth with 1.69 assists per game. He ranks second on the Saints' lineup with 38 goals and 27 assists for 65 points on the season.
