The Saints would fall 2-1 in doubles but would take five of the six singles matches to take a 6-3 win over RIT on Saturday afternoon in the Newell Field House.
St. Lawrence improved to 7-6 with the win and 3-1 in Liberty League play, while RIT fell to 5-5 and 1-2 in league play.
In doubles, the Saints would win just one match in the number three spot. In that spot,
Edvin Strandberg and
John Hill-Edgar would take on Anthony Lounder and Chang and took an emphatic 8-0 victory.
In singles, the Scarlet and brown battled hard to four three-set matches and saw four of the set wins come down to tiebreakers.
At number one,
Adam Heilbronner won his first set 6-4 but would be forced to the third set by Grahith Movva. Heilbronner ultimately took the 7-6 (7-2) win over his competition. Much like Heilbronner,
Cole Hamilton at three won the first set but lost in a tiebreaker to head to the deciding third set. Hamilton dispatched Chang 6-1 for the win.
Ben Moolman had the most straight-forward match at four winning 6-0, 6-2 against Luke Weber.
At five and six, Strandberg and Hill-Edgar each won their second matches of the day. Hill-Edgar lost the first set 7-6 (7-1) to Verosh Jayanetti, but bounced back with 6-4, 6-1 wins. In the sixth spot, Strandberg went to a tiebreaker in his first set winning 7-6 (7-2), then won the second 6-3 to secure victory.
The Saints will be back in action next week when the team heads to Union and Rochester on April 12-13.
