The Saints scored eight in game two of the day, but six runs against in the first game sent the St. Lawrence University baseball team to a twin bill split on Saturday afternoon against Clarkson at Tom Fay Field in Canton, N.Y.
The Scarlet and Brown went to 12-18 on the year with the split and 6-11 in Liberty League play, while Clarkson fell to 10-18, and 3-13 in league play.
Before the contest, the St. Lawrence University baseball program honored the seven members of the Class of 2024 in
Sam Vincent,
Teaghin Andre,
Ryan Rodriguez,
Brett Federico,
Stephen Colangelo,
Michael Watson, and
Noah Bolduc.
Game 1: St. Lawrence 1, Clarkson 6 (9 innings)
Game one opened as a pitcher's duel with neither team plating a run until late in the contest Despite the lack of offense, strikeouts were hard to come by and the defenses shined.
The 0-0 score would not last forever as Clarkson took the lead in the sixth. A lead off walk spiraled for the Saints as the Knights scored on a passed ball, three singles, and a double to take a 5-0 lead.
Their lead ballooned to six in the eighth with a double down the line to score a run.
St. Lawrence finally reached the scoreboard in the bottom half of the eighth when
Timothy Connor scored
John Donnellan with an RBI single through the right side. The Saints were unable to get any closer in the effort.
Brenden O'Neil pitched five innings in the game, while
Joshua Polumbo,
Teaghin Andre, and
Brendan Karadenes combined to pitch the game's final four innings.
Game 2: St. Lawrence 8, Clarkson 1 (9 innings)
St. Lawrence finally got the bats rolling in game two and got runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning.
Jackson Brinker, Connor, and
Brett Federico started the effort with three straight singles to score a run and hang a run on the board.
Matt Davis and
Noah Bolduc followed suit with scoring pays to make it a 3-0 game.
The Knights took a run back in the top of the fourth singling a ball through the right side to make it a 3-1 game.
The Saints lead doubled in the bottom of the sixth with another offensive explosion. Davis led off the inning reaching on an error and was followed by singles from Bolduc,
Sean Desjardins, and
Daniel Verrastro to plate a run. Brinker and Connor came up big with two RBI in the later at-bats to take the 6-1 lead.
The final runs of the game came in the bottom of the seventh when Bolduc and Verrastro srove in a run each making it 8-1.
Liam Hickey earned his second win of the season in the game throwing five and a third innings giving up just one earned run.
David Zuhlsdorf pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief striking out four batters, giving up no runs, and picked up his first career save.
