Game 1: St. Lawrence 4, RIT 1 (9 innings)
Game one started as a pitcher's duel as O'Neil and Alex Slotter had the game scoreless through two and a half innings.
Â
The Saints broke onto the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third with some two-out hitting. Connor got things going with a single up the middle that sparked the lineup. Federico followed with a double to left field to score Connor from first. In the next at-bat, Gannon scorched a single up the middle to make it 2-0.
Â
O'Neil and the Scarlet and Brown defense were sterling through seven innings deftly fanning batters and stealing hits with their gloves.
Â
St. Lawrence doubled their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh when a Siano leadoff double led to a sacrifice bunt, followed by a pair of hits. Much like in the third, Connor had a single and Federico followed with a double to bring two runners home.
Â
O'Neil would finally relent a run in the eighth on a groundout but would promptly slam the door on the next batter to stop the damage. Then in the top of the ninth, the hurler struck out two batters looking and caused a flyout for a complete game win.
Â
Game 2: St. Lawrence 10, RIT 9 (9 innings)
After struggling with the bats in game one, RIT jumped on the Saints in the second game getting two runners aboard that were drove in for a 2-0 score.
Â
The Saints returned serve in the bottom of the second when a
Matt Davis single set up Donnellan, who smoked a no-doubter over the left field wall for a 2-2 game.
Â
RIT would score twice more in the third and it had looked like the St. Lawrence lineup tied up the game once again, but a questionable call from the umpires on a squeeze bunt sent the runners back to base and took two runs off the board.
Â
Siano brought the score to within a run in the fourth with a double in the gap, but RIT would score four runs in the top of the next inning to take an 8-3 lead.
Â
An error from the Tigers in the fifth, and a single in the top of the sixth would give a run to both teams, who went into the bottom of the sixth at 9-4.
Â
Jackson Brinker, Connor, and Federico opened the bottom half of the inning with singles to score a run, then a Gannon walk set up a bases-loaded spot for Desjardins. The junior smoked a single through the left side, then a fielding error on the Tigers plated another run to make it 9-8. Siano threw the final punch with a single to right field to score two and give the Saints the lead.
Â
Zuhlsdorf and the Saints' defense shined once again keeping the Tigers at bay through the eighth inning. After two singles from RIT in the ninth, Watson was given the ball and he did not disappoint burying the final three batters to earn the save.
