Mike Siano, and
Willie Landman each drove in runs for the Saints. Still, it was not enough as the St. Lawrence University baseball team fell 12-5 to SUNY Cortland on Tuesday afternoon in Cortland, N.Y.
The Saints fell to 10-17 on the year with the loss.
St. Lawrence jumped out to an early lead in the game plating two runs in the second.
Landman started the game with a leadoff hit by pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Gabe Albertson earned a walk in the next at-bat leading to a sacrifice bunt from Siano. The play was botched, and Landman came around to score for the lead. In the next at-bat, Morrissey grounded out but Albertson scored to double the lead.
Landman then drove a run of his own in the next inning hitting a sacrifice fly to right field to score
Matt Davis from third base, who walked to start the third inning.
Cortland would take time to get started but eventually would explode for seven runs in the sixth. Three RBI singles and a passed ball play made it 4-3 for the Red Dragons then a bases-loaded single with two out ballooned the score to 7-3.
Cortland doubled down in the next inning with a three-run home run, and a pair of RBI at-bats to make it 12-3.
Siano and Morrissey each drove in a run in the top of the eighth with an RBI single and a fielder's choice respectively to make it 12-5 but the team could not get any closer.
Joshua Polumbo started the game for the Scarlet and Brown throwing three innings giving up three hits and no runs.
Teaghin Andre,
John Igoe, and
Sam Fosberg each pitched an inning in relief, followed by
Jared Brenner (0.1),
Michael Flyzik (1.1), and
Will Mueller (0.1), who closed out the last two innings of work.
The Saints will be back in Liberty League play on Friday when the team heads up Route 11 to take on Clarkson in a single game on April 26 at 3 p.m.
