The fifth-ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team shutout crosstown rival Clarkson in the first half and saw goals from 12 different scorers en route to a 16-6 win on Wednesday afternoon in Potsdam, N.Y.
Daniel Mahoney led the Scarlet and Brown with three goals and an assist, while
Bobby Wells finished with two of each and
Ben Hutchinson finished with a pair of goals and an assist. Nine other members of the Saints' squad tallied one goal apiece, including career firsts for
Nate Stevens,
William Villa,
Charlie Cunningham and
Charlie Miele.
Paddy Condon was a perfect 15-for-15 in the faceoff circle, picked up a team-best 10 ground balls and tallied a goal for the Saints.
Tripp Clark picked up six ground balls, while
Lucas Podvey finished with four ground balls and one caused turnover.
An opening faceoff goal from Condon, got the ball rolling for the Saints, sparking an eventual 10-goal run for St. Lawrence. A man-up goal from Hutchinson and a pair of goals from
Daniel Mahoney and Wells, put the Saints up 4-0 after the first 15 minutes of play.

Michael Marinello gave the Saints a 7-0 shutout lead at halftime.

Daniel Mahoney and
John Mahoney tallied back-to-back goals to start the third and Stevens' first increased the Saints lead to 10-0, before Clarkson was able to score their first goal of the game at 4:03 of the third.
The Golden Knights added two more in the third, but St. Lawrence continued with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Golden Knights 5-3 for the 16-6 win.
"It was another good effort across the board," said head coach
Mike Mahoney. "It was nice to see a lot of guys contribute in many different ways. We look forward to getting back home on Saturday for another conference match up."
Andrew Kearney led the Golden Knights with two goals, an assist and three ground balls, while Matt Reilly finished with two goals.
Marinello recorded the win with 11 saves for the Saints, while
Andrew Vona and
Heath Mann also saw time in goal. Eric Gellasch finished with 11 saves in the loss for Clarkson.
The Saints outshot Clarkson 44-43, including a 31-20 shot-on-goal advantage. SLU also picked up 42 ground balls to Clarkson's 29 and capitalized on one man-up opportunity.
St. Lawrence improved to 13-1 overall and remain undefeated in Liberty League play at 5-0, while Clarkson fell to 6-8 and 0-5.
The Saints will host second-ranked RIT on Saturday, April 20 for senior day. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
