Donnellan Swats Two Over the Fence; Baseball Falls 21-8 at Rochester

Sophomore John Donnellan had a big day at the plate going 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI, but the Yellowjackets' offense exploded for 21 runs to give the St. Lawrence University baseball team a 21-8 loss to Rochester on Monday night.

St. Lawrence fell to 5-6 on the year and 0-1 in the Liberty League, while Rochester improved to 6-9 overall and 1-0 in league play.

The Yellowjacket attack started early in the contest with the team posting three runs in the first. A double and a single setup and RBI single followed by a two-run double two at-bats later to take the 3-0 lead.

The Saints answered in the next half-inning after a walk from Sean Desjardins led to a two-run home run for Donnellan to make it 3-2.

Rochester would get the runs back with three more in the bottom of the second inning off two singles to score runs and a double.

The Yellowjackets would then score three in the fourth and four in the fifth to take the 13-2 advantage.

In the top of the sixth, Donnellan would once again come to the plate with runners aboard after Max Cloutier got on with a single and another Desjardins walk. Donnellan would power his second home run over the fence to cut the score to 13-8.

Rochester would not relent as in the bottom of the six they put eight runs on the board to put the game out of reach for good.

Michael Hutchins started the game and pitched 3.1 innings, while Sam Fosberg, Brendan Karadenes, Jared Brenner, Teaghin Andre, and John Igoe combined to pitch the rest of the way.

The two teams will line up for the last two games of the three-game series tomorrow with game one slated to start at noon.
