No. 7 Saints Salute Seniors with 5-0 Shutout Win Over Dartmouth and Weekend Sweep

The seventh-ranked St. Lawrence University women's hockey team capped off the regular season with another weekend sweep, posting a 5-0 shutout win over Dartmouth on senior day at Appleton Arena.

With today's win, the Saints locked finished third in the ECAC Hockey standings at 25-9-0 on the season and 18-4-0 in league play. Dartmouth fell to 6-20-3 and 3-16-3 and finished the regular season in 10th place.

After the first period of scoreless action, the Saints held a 10-7 edge in shots on goal.

The second period saw four unanswered goals for the Saints, as Julia Gosling got the scoring started one minute and 45 seconds into the period. Gosling pickup up the puck deep in the corner, skated the top of the right circle and caught Dartmouth's Haan Humphreys by surprise with an old-angled shot for the 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second, the Saints scored three goals in just over two minutes increasing their lead to 4-0 lead over the Big Green.

First, Aly McLeod capitalized on a Dartmouth turnover in the slot to make it 2-0.

One minute and 34 second later, Gosling ripped another shot, this time through traffic, making it 3-0. Katina Duscio assisted on the play.

The Saints fourth goal was a great connection between Anna Segedi and Abby Hustler, Segedi found Hustler, who was waiting deep in the neutral zone. Hustler went one-on-one with Humphreys, going five hole, for her 24th goal of the season.

After two periods of play, St. Lawrence held a 20-14 advantage in shots on goal.

The Saints final goal of the game came off the stick of Sarah Marchand. Gosling sent an initial shot on net from the right circle, the rebound popped out to the stick of Hustler, who tipped it ever so slightly to Marchand, who cashed in for the 5-0 final.



"It was another successful senior weekend," said head coach Chris Wells. "We found our stride in the second again like last night."
 
"Julia got us started and we rode some momentum after that. Kassidy made some nice stops in the third to get the shutout and we were able to celebrate our seniors."

The Saints finished with a 29-20 edge in shots on goal and 57-39 in total attempts.

Saints' goaltender Kassidy Lawrence recorded her first collegiate shutout, making 20 saves between the pipes, while Humphreys finished with 25.

SLU went 1-for-2 on the power play and killed off both of the Big Green's chances in the win, putting them 0-for-2 on the afternoon.

"We have our bye and we will rest up this week and prepare for our opponent in the quarterfinals!" Wells added. "Another great crowd here in Appleton. We can't thank the fans enough for all their support this regular season."

St. Lawrence will have next weekend off and will await their opponent following the first-round games. SLU will host the best-of-three quarterfinal series March 1-3, their first home quarterfinals since 2017-18.

Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and if necessary 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets will go on sale at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 1st. Doors will open at 5 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. All seats are general admission; ticket prices are $5.00 for children, students, and senior citizens. Adult tickets will be $7.00.
