Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Hustler Tallies Three Points, No. 11 Saints Top Harvard 4-2

Abby Hustler scored one goal and added two assists, and three other Saints scored to lead the No. 11 St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 4-2 win over Harvard on Friday night at Appleton Arena.

With the win, SLU improved to 10-5-4 on the season and 4-1-2 in ECAC play, while Harvard fell to 2-9-1 and 1-8-0, respectively.

After an evenly paced first 20 minutes of play, neither team found the back of the net and the Saints held a slight 10-9 edge in shots on goal.

St. Lawrence applied heavy pressure in the second period, building a four-goal lead over the Crimson.

Hustler struck first for the Scarlet and Brown, as a low shot trickled past Harvard goaltender Ainsley Tuffy for the 1-0 lead. Alexia Côté and Katina Duscio both added helpers on the play.

Just over six minutes later, Hillary Sterling found Anna Segedi who scored on a wraparound shot to make it 2-0.

The Saints third goal came off the stick of Taylor Lum, as she sent a deflection past Tuffy off a shot from Sarah Thompson.

Côté tallied her second point of the night with just under five minutes to play, as Hustler sent the puck up from the Harvard goal line and after a brief pause, she sent a Côté sent a rocket over Tuffy's blocker.

After the second period, the Crimson pulled Tuffy and put Emily Davidson in goal.

The first half of the third saw no goals and with 11:25 to play, head coach Chris Wells sent in Kassidy Lawrence to finish off the remaining time between the pipes for the Saints.

Harvard fought back and looked for a breakaway, but as the Saints tried to clear, Antonina Dinges scooped up the loose puck and beat Lawrence glove side.

With 10.2 seconds left in the third, Sophie Ensley added one more for the Crimson, but the Saints four-goal lead was good for the win.

"We came out with good energy and good pace," said Wells. "Two great penalty kills in the first gave us a boost heading into the second and we were able to get a few bounces and score some nice goals. It's been a long time coming for this group to have a few goals go their way."

Emma-Sofie Nordström finished with 20 saves for the Saints, while Lawrence made one. Tuffy finished with 12 saves for the Crimson, while Davidson stopped eight.

St. Lawrence finished with a 40-32 advantage in shots, including 24-23 in shots on goal.

"Emma was solid in net when she needed to be and we had good efforts up and down the lineup," Wells added. "This was a big three points tonight and we will look to build off of it heading into tomorrow."

The Saints will play their last game of the fall semester, hosting Dartmouth tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Appleton Arena.
