The St. Lawrence University men's cross country team finished the season accomplishing a feat not seen since 2015 – an individual Liberty League championship.
Nick Lyndaker accomplished it on home turf this year, when he placed first on the Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course. His time of 24:35.3 broke a 13-year-old Hoffmann course record, and was the fastest individual champion time in Liberty League history. He also earned all-Liberty League first-team honors with the finish, and was later voted Liberty League Co-Runner of the Year by conference coaches.
As a team, the Saints raced to a second overall finish in the conference championship race, with
Patrick Russell and
Matthew Taylor both recording Liberty League Honorable Mention performances.
"I think my favorite memory from this season will be the team's performance at the Liberty League Championships," said St. Lawrence head coach
John Newman. "There's something about racing championships on our home course and it always seems to bring something special out of the Saints."
"Nick winning the individual crown was almost like it was scripted but it still came as a bit of a surprise given the quality and depth at the front of our conference this year," he continued. "I think his win was especially rewarding since he completed the course in a new record for both the Hoff and the Liberty League Championship. We are really looking forward to the indoor season after seeing so much development from the team members this fall."
Lyndaker moved onto the NCAA Mideast Regional meet where he fought to an eighth-place finish, enough to move him onto the NCAA Championship eight-kilometer race in Terre Haute, Indiana. He placed 59
th nationally.
