Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Hehl, Duscio Record Multi-Point Night; No. 9 Saints Edge Yale, 2-1

Abby Hehl and Katina Duscio each recorded two points, while Emma-Sofie Nordström matched her season-high 37 saves to lead the ninth-ranked St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 2-1 win over the Yale Bulldogs on Friday night in New Haven, Conn.

With the win, the Saints improved to 9-5-3 overall and 3-1-1 in ECAC play, while Yale fell to 5-4-1 and 4-4-1.

The majority of the first 20 minutes of play was full of back-and-forth flurries, but the standout play came with 1:30 to go as Nordström made three consecutive saves to keep the Bulldogs off the board.

After the first period, Yale led 11-6 in shots on goal.

Four minutes and 55 seconds into the second, Duscio came flying into the slot, her shot was stopped by Yale goaltender Pia Dukaric, but Hehl broke the ice for the Scarlet and Brown after capitalizing on the rebound from the doorstep.

Nordström played stellar in the second period, with multiple saves to shut down the Bulldogs, including stonewalling Jordan Ray on a breakaway with 3:00 to play in the second.

After the second period, the Saints held onto their 1-0 lead, as Yale continued to lead in shots on goal, 30-18.

Duscio added her second point of the night, just 5:02 into the third, firing a wrister to the top right corner from the left circle giving the Saints a 2-0 lead. Hehl also recorded her second point with an assist.

The Bulldogs brought the game within one at 12:33 of the third, as Ray scored just 10 seconds into the Yale power play to make it 2-1.

"It was an up and down game from the drop of the puck," said head coach Chris Wells. "Both goalies were excellent and kept the game as it was. We had a couple great efforts on our goals. Duscio has had a handful of chances the last few games and she got the winner tonight, very well deserved."

"There was a great calmness on the bench after Yale made it 2-1. We got a few bounces around our net and made some good plays to finish the game off."

Anna Segedi and Sarah Marchand also tallied helpers for the Saints in the win.

Nordström matched her season-high 37 saves, while Dukaric stopped 23 for the Bulldogs.

Yale finished with a 38-25 advantage in shots on goal and outshot the Saints 62-50. The Bulldogs finished 1-for-1 on the power play, while the Saints went 0-for-1.

St. Lawrence will continue their weekend road trip as they head to Providence, R.I. to take on the Brown Bears tomorrow at 3 p.m.
