Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

McDonough Stops Five in 1-0 Loss at Ithaca

In a hotly contested game, an 88th-minute goal from the Bombers was the difference as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team fell 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Ithaca College.

St. Lawrence fell to 5-4-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in Liberty League play, while Ithaca stayed undefeated at 8-0-3, and 3-0-0 in league action.

"That was a tough one in the end, but I'm proud of the group for their improvement in the details since our last few games." Said head coach Sinead McSharry

Senior Darcie McDonough was the star of the first half facing four shots to the Saints' frame. The keeper stood tall stopping all four chances for the Scarlet and Brown.

Grace Mochnal had the lone chance for St. Lawrence in the opening 45 but she saw her shot sail out right of the goal.

Both teams had limited chances again in the second half with each team getting a shot on goal in the opening 25 minutes.

McDonough once again came up big stopping a Rosie Bostian effort, while Grace Hickey countered with a save of her own in the 71st minute on Mochnal.

The game would be decided in the 88th minute when the Bombers were afforded a corner kick. Julia Cascone's corner kick sailed up and found its way in to give Ithaca the deciding goal in the match.

McDonough finished with five saves in the effort, while Hickey stopped the lone shot for the clean sheet.

Ithaca had a 6-1 edge in shots on goal and an 11-2 mark in corners.

St. Lawrence will return home and begin preparing for their Breast Cancer Awareness game against RIT on Saturday, October 12 at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
