Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Casey Scores For Women's Soccer in 2-1 Loss to RIT

Senior Emma Casey was able to score in the 29th minute to tie the game at 1-1 but a set piece goal from RIT in the 35th sent the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 2-1 loss on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

St. Lawrence fell to 5-5-1 on the season and 0-3-1 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers improved to 6-3-3 and 2-1-1 in league action.

Despite early pressure from the Saints, including shots from Madison King-Thurber and Grace Mochnal, which were stopped, RIT found the scoreboard first in the match.

Following a St. Lawrence foul, Rachel Marriott was set to take a free kick and was searching for a Tiger crossing the face of the goal. The ball missed the forward, but the ball found its way in through a screen to give RIT the 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute.

The Scarlet and Brown answered back in quick fashion finding twine less than seven minutes later. Chloe Bourque started the play launching a perfect lofted through ball up the right wing to King-Thurber. The midfielder centered a pass across the box to Casey, who buried her shot to knot the match.

The free kicks once again were friendly to RIT, who regained the lead in the 35th minute. This time it was Abby Umbenhaur, who took the kick but saw it stopped by Darcie McDonough. The rebound came out to Emma Pedro, who tapped the ball in to take the 2-1 lead.

In the second half, the Saints were able to outshoot the Tigers 2-1 in shots on frame but struggled to find an equalizer. Casey and Zoe Rogan both had good looks on the Tiger goal but were stymied by Emily Sanchez.

McDonough finished with four saves in the game, while Sanchez came up with five.

St. Lawrence ended with the narrow 14-12 edge in shots and was tied 6-6 in shots on goal with the Tigers. The Saints also had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Saints will head back to the road next weekend for a pair of games against Vassar on Friday, and Bard on Saturday.
