George Charalambous earned his fifth consecutive clean sheet, making nine saves as the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw in a spirited affair on a sunny afternoon in Canton, N.Y.
The Cypriot netminder's work between the posts, along with strong defensive tactics from the Saints, has led to the Scarlet and Brown not conceding since their 1-1 draw against SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, September 7.
With the draw, the Saints' conference record is now 1-0-1, while their overall record goes to 4-2-2.
"A very difficult game today against Ithaca," said
Mike Toshack, the Saints' head coach. "Defensively, we displayed a lot of grit and determination. George displayed why he is the best keeper in the Liberty League with a fine performance. Disappointed that we didn't finish a couple of chances early in the match. However, five games without a loss or conceding a goal gives us a lot to build on for our match against Clarkson this Wednesday."
Ithaca directed 14 shots to St. Lawrence's eight. In addition to Charalambous's nine saves, Ithaca's Brayden Milbrandt made three saves of his own. Midfielder
Nicholas Petrone was the only player on either team to have more than one shot on goal, sending two shots on net in the game.
The Saints now set to host regional foe Clarkson at MacAllaster Field Wednesday, October 9 as they enter the middle of their Liberty League schedule.
