Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mogul Scores the Game-Winner in Men's Soccer's 1-0 Win at Skidmore

Senior forward Max Mogul was the difference in the game scoring a goal in the 78th minute to lead the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Skidmore in Saratoga Springs on Saturday afternoon.

St. Lawrence improved to 8-2-4 on the year and 5-0-3 in Liberty League play, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 4-3-6 and 3-2-2 in league action.

The Scarlet and Brown won their third consecutive with a clean sheet and are now unbeaten in their last 12 matches since September 1 (8-0-4). The win, along with the league results, puts the Saints at 18 points and atop the Liberty League table by four points over Vassar and Hobart.

Skidmore got off to a strong start in the contest earning the first four shot attempts. Only one of the looks found the woodwork where George Charalambous deftly stopped the chance.

St. Lawrence got the offense going later in the half getting three shots onto Will Devall. Gustav Scheibler, Mogul, and Grant Gilmer all made great attempts on the Skidmore goal in a six-minute stretch but were turned away as the game went to the half.

The tie looked as if it was in the past four minutes into the second half when Mogul had a free look on goal. However, the ball rang off the crossbar keeping the game even.

Charalambous and Devall traded saves as the game went along until one of them finally blinked. Following a Thoroughbred opportunity, the Saints countered down the pitch where Sam Pijpers found Mogul. The senior buried the all-important goal to put the team up 1-0 with 12:07 left in the contest.

Henry Hart and Nicholas Petrone did well to defend by generating offense getting shots off, but they couldn't double the lead. Instead, it was up to the St. Lawrence backline, who kept Skidmore's shots off the frame as the clock hit 90.

Charalambous stopped seven shots in goal for his seventh clean sheet of the year, while Devall made six on the seven shots he faced.

The two teams were deadlocked with 15 shots a piece, but the Thoroughbreds held the negligible 8-7 edge in shots on goal.

St. Lawrence will be back at Sandy MacAllaster Field for their final two games of the regular season as the team hunts the regular season title. The team will host regional foe Plattsburgh State in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before hosting Hobart on Saturday.
