The Saints scored two goals in the first half and another two in the second half to power the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Bard College on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
The Scarlet and Brown improved to 6-2-4 overall with the win, and 3-0-3 in the Liberty League. Bard fell to 5-8-1, and 0-6-1 in league play.
It took less than two minutes for the Saints to find the scoreboard scoring one minute and 19 seconds into the game.
Max Mogul started the play by rushing past Raptor defenders and up the right wing. The senior sent a pass to
Sam Pijpers, who one-touched the ball to a wide-open
Eric Edmonds. Edmonds buried the ball to the far post and in to take the early lead.
The game cruised along at 1-0 until the 42
nd minute when the game flipped on its head for Bard.
Henry Brown had an open run on the goal but was steamrolled by a charging Julian Landau just outside the Raptor box. The keeper got a straight red card and left Pijpers with a free kick just outside of the box. The forward sent a shot off the right post and past Will Beane-Rosenberg to take the 2-0 lead into the half.
The Scarlet and Brown tripled their lead in the 57
th minute of the contest off a tremendous play by
Kyle Reddish. The first-year midfielder had the ball on the outer ranges of the Raptor box and as the ball was heading out of play, he slid and chipped a pass back into scoring territory. Brown was on the receiving end of the play burying the pass into the twine to take the 3-0 lead.
The assist was the first career point for Reddish, who was not done with his career firsts in the contest. Â
Bard was able to make up some ground in the contest in the 76
th minute just after a substitution. Devin James came into the game and made an immediate impact as Ben Steketee crossed a ball into the box to James, who beat the keeper to cut into the deficit.
St. Lawrence put the finishing touches on the game in the 85
th minute when a corner kick set piece ended up in the Raptor goal.
Nicholas Petrone fired the corner kick into the box where Reddish got a foot on it for his first career goal and the 4-1 lead.
George Charalambous finished the win with one save for St. Lawrence. Landau made two saves on three shots in 14:22 for Bard, while Beane-Rosenberg made five saves in relief of Landau.
The Scarlet and Brown, who now sit two points behind Vassar on the Liberty League table after a four-point weekend, will head to Union this coming Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. match with the Garnet Chargers before heading to Skidmore on the weekend for their final road match of the regular season.
