Saints Fall to Hobart in Liberty League Action

The Hobart Statesmen put up points in all four quarters to defeat the St. Lawrence University football team 39-3 on Saturday afternoon at Leckonby Stadium.

Daniel Lawther passed 7-for-15 for 103 yards, while backup quarterback Sean Miles rushed for 21 yards, while Shea Goodwin caught two passes for 76 yards, including a 66 yard catch in the second quarter, for St. Lawrence.

Savino Morelli led the defense with a team-best nine tackles, while Daniel George recorded eight. Both Colin Wanat and Liam Perkins finished with seven apiece. Perkins and Morelli combined for a sack for the loss of three yards.

Tobias Wefering put the first points on the board for Hobart with a 29-yard field goal at 8:14 of the first quarter.

The Statesmen built their lead, as E.J. Taylor pushed through for a one-yard touchdown run, capping a 50-yard drive. Wefering's kick was good, putting Hobart up 10-0 after the first 15 minutes of play.

Wefering converted on his second field goal opportunity at 11:54 of the second, this time for 25 yards and the 13-0 advantage.

Clayton Fogler netted three points for the Saints, as he converted on a 22-yard field goal about six minutes later, making the score 13-3.

Wefering continued to log points for the Statesmen putting up a 41-yard field goal to close out the second quarter, increasing Hobart's lead to 16-3 before the break.

Johnny Colombi connected with Ahmed Crowell and Johnny Harding in the third quarter, as Hobart pulled to a 29-3 lead.

Hobart finished with 10 more points in the fourth quarter for the 39-3 final.



Colombi threw 14-for-22 for 226 yards and two touchdowns, while Taylor led the ground game with 79 yards on 19 attempts. Harding logged three receptions for 81 yards and one touchdown. Jaimen Bliss recorded seven tackles for Hobart, while Chris Ntumba and Corey Rock each tallied an interception for the Statesmen.

Hobart finished with 390 yards of total offense, while St. Lawrence logged 164. The Statesmen also finished with a 22-7 advantage in first downs and went 5-for-14 on third-down conversions.

Next weekend the Saints will travel to Rochester to take on the Yellowjackets on Saturday, October 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
