Araiza Acum-Santos had six kills and
Kori Meissner had 10 digs, but the St. Lawrence volleyball team fell to rival Clarkson 3-0 in their penultimate home game of the season, Friday at Burkman Gymnasium.
Sofia Velasquez was second on the team with four kills and
Lily Snide helped out defensively with six digs and served up six aces.
In the first set, the Golden Knights stormed out to a 14-0 lead. Even though the Saints played the Golden Knights nearly even the rest of the set, Clarkson didn't allow the Scarlet and Brown to gather themselves as the Golden Knights took the first set 25-10.
St. Lawrence trailed early again in the second set, with Clarkson scoring six of the first eight. However, the Saints were able to cut into the lead with a few errors from the Golden Knights combined with kills from Acum-Santos and Velasquez to bring the Clarkson lead down to 2, 9-7.
However, Clarkson was in control the rest of the way, They scored the next four points and then never allowed the Saints to score back-to-back the rest of the way, eventually winning the set comfortably 25-11.
In the third, the Saints took first lead of any set by going up 5-4 and then an ace by
Bridget Gammons made the game 6-4. The Golden Knights came back into the game after this though, going on a 13-1 run to open up a 10-point lead for the 17-7.
With the game at 23-13, the Saints were able to start a small run and score four straight but the final two points went the way of the Golden Knights to sweep the Saints and win 25-17.
The Saints will be back at home Saturday, October 19 against the Ithaca Bombers in their final home game of the 2024 regular season.
