The St. Lawrence University football team took the lead on a field goal in the second, but the RPI Engineers scored three touchdowns in the second half to claim a 34-10 win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon in Troy, N.Y.
Saints' quarterback
Daniel Lawther threw 27-for-47 for 295 yards, while
Oskar Baldwin led the Saints receiving play with seven catches for 114 yards.
Nicholas Huhtala and
Shea Goodwin each finished with six catches for the Saints.
Defensively,
Savino Morelli dominated with 12 tackles, including a sack for the loss of 13 and 1.5 TFL's total for the loss of 15.
Daniel George and
John Finnegan each recorded seven tackles. Finnegan and
Colin Wanat each snagged a pass breakup.
The Engineers put points on the board first, as Kayden White capped a 59-yard drive and scored on a one-yard rush for RPI. The extra point, however, was no good and the Engineers held a 6-0 lead with 7:59 to play in the first.
St. Lawrence scored next on a fourth and one, the Saints went for it and scored on a two-yard run from
Will Lederman. Lederman's run finished off the 65-yard drive and
Clayton Fogler's kick was good for the 7-6 lead before the end of the first quarter.
Fogler kept the Saints in control early in the second, as he converted on a 33-yard field goal, putting SLU up 10-6.
Just about five minutes later, the Engineers scored their second touchdown with an eight-yard run from Christian Buckley. The extra point was good giving RPI a 13-10 advantage at halftime.
RPI extended their lead, as quarterback Jake Kazanowsky capped a 53-yard drive with a three-yard run. The extra point was good, giving the Engineers a 19-10 lead.
The Engineers scored three more touchdowns, one in the third quarter and two in the fourth for the 34-10 final. Â Â
Kazanowsky went 19-for-27 for the Engineers for 138 yards, while Kayden White ran 66 yards on 10 attempts and finished two touchdowns. Hayden Faraday caught eight passes for 53 yards. Cassius Johnson finished with eight tackles and two breakups for RPI, while Owen Boland and Cole Garrison each with a sack for the loss.
SLU finished with a 21-17 edge in first downs, while the Engineers held a 330-317 advantage in total yards of offense. St. Lawrence converted on 2-of-4 fourth-down opportunities, while RPI went 8-for-13 on third downs.
St. Lawrence fell to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in Liberty League play, while RPI improved to 3-3 and 1-1.
The Saints will return to Leckonby Stadium when they host Hobart on Saturday, October 19. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
