Sophomore forward
Adam Dudzinski scored a game-high 22 points, with 21 of them coming in the first half, while making a season-best seven three-pointers on just ten shots as the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team pushed their win streak to seven games with a 60-49 Liberty League victory over Bard.
Dudzinski's seven threes all came in the game's first half, as the sophomore from Syracuse, N.Y. rattled off a career-high in points.
"I haven't seen anyone shoot like that in our gym ever," said
Chris Downs, the Saints' head coach since 1997. "Seven in a half has to be a record. We really needed everyone to contribute in order to come away with the win tonight."
The Saints jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead just over six minutes into the contest. A
Troy McPherson three followed by two back-to-back Andrew Cowen buckets pushed the lead to 12 while tough defense by St. Lawrence held the Raptors to under ten points till the ten-minute mark of the first half.
Dudzinski, who hit all seven of his threes in the first half, pushed the lead to 39-18 after hitting four straight threes in about three minutes with five minutes remaining in the opening stanza. A
Trey Syroka lay-up along with an Aiden Macaulay three and
Tate Kuiper free-throw saw the Saints take a 45-24 lead headed into the break.
Bard would show a bit more focus on offense at the start of the second-half cutting the St. Lawrence lead to just 15 with a little over ten minutes remaining in the game. The Saints defense would hold strong however, allowing just nine points over the final eight minutes to help compensate for a cooler shooting performance that provided just 15 points over the course of the second half.
Dudzinski pulled down six rebounds and swatted three shots to go along with his hot shooting while Aiden Macaulay had nine in the effort for the Saints. Syroka dished out a game-best seven assists to go along with points. St. Lawrence dominated Bard 14-4 in bench points and 15-6 in fast break points en route to their ninth league win of the year.
