Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints Upset at Home by William Smith

William Smith used a strong second half to earn their third win of the season, a 73-58 upset over the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team Friday night at Burkman Gymnasium
.
The Herons, who improved to 3-13 overall on the season, earned the victory through lopsided scorelines in the third and fourth quarters – St. Lawrence, who fell to 5-9, was outscored 20-8 in the fourth quarter.

Head coach Dan Roiger said his team simply wasn't ready to play.

"This was a very disappointing result for our team and hopefully we learn from it," he said. "You could see it from the beginning of the second quarter when William Smith was scoring at will. We allowed them belief and confidence and they took full advantage of it and gave us a beatdown on our home court."

The Saints began the game on a positive note, going up 10-5 and 17-11 in the first quarter though consistent play by two first-years Annie Perry and Elizabeth Flynn, who each consistently drained shots. The score was 23-15 at the end of the first quarter.

While St. Lawrence held their lead in the early portions of the second, William Smith started stringing together scoring at a very high pace and built up a significant lead in the second, outscoring St. Lawrence 19-3 in the first eight minutes of the quarter. St. Lawrence responded with a 9-0 run to take the lead heading to halftime.

William Smith would then outscore the Saints by 16 in the second half, sealing their first road victory of the season.

Elizabeth Flynn had the team lead in production in yet another impressive performance offensively, posting 13 points with 12 rebounds for a double-double. Annie Perry got in on the scoring herself, tying Flynn with 13 points. Perry went 4-7 from beyond the arc, doubling her three-point production for 2024 – she has eight total on the year.

The Saints will have an opportunity to quickly get some retribution when they host RIT Saturday afternoon at Burkman Gymnasium, with first tip scheduled for 2 p.m.
