Jackie Malley's flame throwing second half brought the Saints back into the game, but it ultimately wasn't enough from stopping Ithaca from recording their sixth straight Liberty League win, 64-59 over the Saints.
That sixth straight victory brings Ithaca's record to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in the Liberty League, while the Saints drop to 5-8 and 4-3 in their conference.
The Saints trailed by 13 going into the fourth quarter before Malley's clutch shooting from beyond the arc brought them right back into the contest. She hit three straight three-balls in the third quarter to eventually cut Ithaca's lead to one and went 5-8 over the course of the game.
Ithaca got out to that lead by converting on their chances in the paint in the first quarter, and jumping out to an eight point lead. St. Lawrence halved that result in the second, only losing the point battle by four. Ithaca continued to score in bunches, and the Saints responded with the three ball. Ithaca's lead was 12.
An even third quarter produced a 12-11 point advantage for the Bombers, further extending their lead until St. Lawrence's offense came alive in the fourth, breaking out for 25 points. Malley's three-pointers were supplemented by additional offense from
Shannon Rhone, who added four points and three assists.
The Saints got the lead down to one but then had to begin fouling to stop the clock, and the Bombers converted on their free throws late to rebuild a lead, large enough to hold off the Saints.
St. Lawrence will remain at home for their next contests, as William Smith and RIT head to Burkman Gymnasium for games on Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20 respectively.
