Senior captain
Keely Snode made seven saves in the Saints' woodwork, but it was not enough as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team fell 2-0 against Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
St. Lawrence fell to 3-3-3 on the year and 1-1-1 in Liberty League play, while the Bombers improved to 6-2-2 and 1-1-0 in league action.
"We were very off today so it's hard to be disappointed when the effort is there but the options are limited," said head coach SInead McSharry "We need to move on and look forward to next week's games."
Ithaca was able to jump on the scoreboard early with a tally in the 5th minute of the first half. A Julia Cascone corner kick bounced in the box to Allie McCabe, who tapped home the ball to give the Bombers the lead.
Later in the half, Ithaca would double the lead when a cross found Jayne Bogle in dangerous territory. Bogle shook a defender and put a shot into the twine to make it 2-0 at the half.
After getting outshot 10-3 in the first half, the Scarlet and Brown turned the tide outshooting Ithaca 6-5 in the second half as they looked to get back into the match.
Emma Casey was able to get the first shot on frame for the Saints, and was followed by
Zoe Rogan, who ripped a shot to the upper corner but was stymied,
Meredith Donahue was able to get two shots off in the final ten minutes and found a shooting lane in the box for one of her attempts. The sophomore was stopped by Grace Hickey, who successfully preserved her clean sheet.
Snode finished with seven saves in the effort, while Hickey stopped four shots in the Bomber goal.
St. Lawrence will dip their feet back into non-conference action early next week when the team travels to Plattsburgh to take on the Cardinals on Wednesday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m.
