SUNY Cortland Scores Early, Hands Saints Loss on Road

Lucy Adiutori stopped seven SUNY Cortland shots but it was the Red Dragons who came out on top Wednesday night, 4-0 over the St. Lawrence Saints field hockey team in Cortland, N.Y.

The match brings the Saints' record 3-5 overall on the season.

Saints head coach Fran Grembowicz said her team worked hard in the second half, holding undefeated Cortland's offence at bay for the most part.

"We were able to hold them to one goal in the second half," said Grembowicz. "We'll be looking to bring that intensity into Saturday's game."

The Red Dragons, who improved to 7-0 with their shutout of the Saints, didn't waste any time getting off to a lead, with Keirra Ettere scoring at 4:31 of the game on a rebound.

Sydney Reinisch then made it 2-0 at 11:03, with Ettere getting in on the scoring for the second time through an assist. She passed it toward the left side of the goal and Reinisch beat Vredenburg off the quick shot.

Reinisch then made it 3-0 at 19:34, scoring her fifth of the year to bring her into a tie for second in Red Dragons scoring. That brought the group to halftime with a large Cortland lead.

Cortland's lone goal in the second half came from Hanna Corrigan on a long shot that came off a penalty corner at 47:12. That was the last of the scoring for the Red Dragons.

St. Lawrence returns to North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium for a home contest against Union, Saturday, Sept. 30.
