Junior quarterback
Will Lederman, tallied multiple career-bests in Scarlet and Brown, and scored four touchdowns to lead the St. Lawrence University football team to a 28-0 shutout win over Castleton on Laurentian Weekend, Saturday, September 23.
Lederman passed 20-for-31 for a career-high 227 yards and two touchdowns and tallied two touchdowns on the run, leading the Saints' ground game with 48 yards on 14 attempts.
Mark Rodeo and
William Turner also saw time in the pocket for St. Lawrence in the win.
Cole Salyards caught 11 passes for 115 yards, while
Shea Goodwin caught four for 62.
On the defensive end,
Joseph O'Neil led the Saints with seven tackles, while
Ryan Watson recorded four tackles and two sacks for the loss of nine yards.
Ben Munn added six tackles and four quarterback hurries, while
Owen O'Brien and
Nicholas Giardina each broke up one pass.
Lederman connected with Salyards with a four-yard touchdown to cap a 65-yard drive for the Saints first score of the game at 10:34 of the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Lederman found
Matt Kowalski, who made a 15-yard diving catch, for his first career touchdown, increasing the Saints lead to 14-0.
Lederman then ran in the next two touchdowns, one on a 15-yard run with 2:03 to play and then again with a 10-yard run to finish off a 50-yard drive.
Clayton Fogler converted on all four of his extra-point opportunities for the Scarlet and Brown.
St. Lawrence closed the half with a 28-0 and maintained the lead through the second half for the win.
Devin Wollner rushed for 44 yards to lead Castleton, while Wyatt Jackson and Christian Keeling caught two passes. Jordan Wright led the Spartans' defense with eight tackles, one and a half tackles for the loss and one sack, while Tyler Buxton finished with seven tackles and one forced fumble.
St. Lawrence finished with a 26-6 advantage in first downs, converted on 12 of 18 third-down conversions and scored on four of five red-zone opportunities.
Both teams moved to 2-2 on the season following today's game.
The Saints open Liberty league play with a trip to Union on Saturday, September 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
