Dutchwomen Top Saints in Season Finale

The St. Lawrence University softball team put three on the board in the first inning, but Union used a fifth inning rally to win 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Vivian Johnson led off the game with a double, and Tori Rotundo singled to left field. Meredith Rose hit a triple down the left field line to score them both. Rose reached home on a Cora Ferguson ground out to make it 3-0 after half an inning.

Johnson started the third inning with her second leadoff hit of the game, singling through the right side.  Ferguson made it two on, two out by beating out an infield single, but the hosts got out of the jam and it remained 3-0.

Sofia Berryhill did not give up a hit until the third inning, but the baserunner was left stranded. In the fourth another runner got on, but again advanced no further than second base. In the bottom of the fifth the hosts scored four on five hits to take a 4-3 lead. Jacee Casebolt relieved Berryhill for the final out of the inning.

Union record one-two-three outs in the final two offensive innings for the Saints to secure the victory. Layne Fritz pitched the final inning for St. Lawrence, and gave up no runs.

Union improved to 14-18 on the year and 6-8 in the Liberty League. The Saints finish their season 8-24 and 4-10 in league play.
