Angelica Aksdal-Jansen each went 2-0 for the Saints as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team knocked off Vassar 5-4 on Saturday afternoon in Poughkeepsie.
The Scarlet and Brown improved to 6-4 on the year and 2-2 in the Liberty League, while the Brewers fell to 6-4 and 2-1 in conference action.
The Saints started the match off strong taking a 2-1 lead after doubles. At number two, Avery and
Emily Harris took on Tatum Blalock and Elyse Duley and took the hotly contested 8-7 (8-7) victory. At number three, Aksdal-Jansen and
Elena Styliades took on Ananya Krishnan and Maya Thompson and took an 8-2 win.
In singles at number one,
Catherine Gamble avenged her doubles loss with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win against Blalock. At three, Avery took on Iris Li and won the three-set match 7-6, 2-6, 7-5. At number four, Aksdal-Jansen lined up against Sofie Shen and locked up a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) win.
The Saints will be back in action next Friday, April 14 when they travel to Schenectady to take on Union College.
