The Saints kept up their great play with their third consecutive win as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated William Smith College 7-2 in their final match of the regular season on Sunday in Geneva, N.Y..
St. Lawrence improved to 9-5 on the season and finished the season with a 5-3 Liberty League mark. The Herons fell to 7-11 on the year and 2-6 in conference action.
The Scarlet and Brown opened the match 2-1 after the doubles round. At number two,
Caitlyn Avery and
Emily Harris took on Audrey Camacho and Natalie Haythorn and earned an 8-5 win. At three,
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and
Elena Styliades won 8-4 in their match against Julia Pida and Marin Montagne.
In singles at number two
Molly Jespersen avenged her doubles loss with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Haley Levine. At numbers three through five, Avery (7-5, 6-0), Aksdal-Jansen (6-0, 6-3), and Harris (7-5, 6-1) all earned their second victories of the match to put the match away.
At six,
Meredith Macey also won handily defeating Mia Tetrault 6-2, 6-2.
The Scarlet and Brown finished fifth in the Liberty League standings qualifying them for the Conference Tournament. The Saints will head to the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University next Friday to compete in the single-elimination tournament which features no back draw.
