Jespersen And Aksdal-Jansen Lead Women's Tennis To 7-2 Win Over Ithaca

The Saints dominated in all facets as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team defeated Ithaca College 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler Tennis Courts in Ithaca, N.Y.

St. Lawrence improved to 8-5 on the year and 4-3 in Liberty League play, while the Bombers fell to 8-8 and 3-4 in conference action.

The Scarlet and Brown took a 2-1 lead after the doubles round. At number one, Catherine gamble and Molly Jespersen took down Rebecca Andrews and Zoe Davis 8-6, while at number three, Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Elena Styliades defeated Kayla Shenk and Sarah Kohberger handily 8-1.

In singles, Jespersen, and Aksdal-Jansen earned their second wins of the day. Jespersen, who was at number two, took on Andrews and won 6-2, 6-4, while classmate Aksdal-Jansen took on Sabrina Cheung at four and won 6-2, 6-1.

At number three, and five Caitlyn Avery and Emily Harris avenged their doubles losses. Avery took on Davis and came away victorious 6-1, 6-0. Harris faced off against Caroline Herz and took a 6-4, 6-1 win.

At number six, Meredith Macey took on Eliana Chelnick and after losing the opening set 6-1, defeated her opponent 6-3, 10-8 in the next two.

The team will play their final match of the regular season tomorrow at William Smith College. The match starts at 10:00 a.m. in Geneva.
