The St. Lawrence University softball team defeated the Tigers of RIT 10-2 and 6-1 on Friday afternoon in Canton, N.Y. to improve to .500 in conference play.

The Saints defeated the Tigers in six innings in the first game of the doubleheader.
Tori Rotundo worked a walk in the bottom of the first, and moved to scoring position on a
Meredith Rose ground out.
Cora Ferguson drove in the first run with a single to the outfield in the next at-bat and the hosts took an early lead.
Sophomore pitcher
Sofia Berryhill gave up just one hit in the opening two innings, but a two-out rally in the third gave the Tigers a two-run lead. The hosts battled right back, scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead 5-2.
Rose hit a double to right center field in the fourth inning, and two wild pitches brought her all the way around to score and make it 6-2.
Layne Fritz relieved Berryhill in the circle and gave up just two hits in two innings.
In the bottom of the six the Saints put four more runs on the board, and the game was called.
Rose, Ferguson,
Zola Braswell and
Sofia Camillieri each finished with two hits. Rose scored a game high three runs, and Ferguson and
Stella VanGee each crossed home plate twice.The team's seven RBI all came from different players.

RIT used a pair of bunts in the first inning of game two to score early.
Cora Ferguson hit her second home run of the season to get that run back and more.
Vivian Johnson worked a leadoff walk, and Rotundo singled to put two on. Ferguson put the ball over the left field fence to put the Scarlet and Brown up 3-1.
The sixth inning had a similar start. Johnson worked a walk and Rotundo singled to left. Rose loaded the bases with a single to left, and Ferguson earned her fourth RBI of the day on a ground out to second to score Johnson. Berryhill also grounded out to second, which scored Rotundo and moved Rose to third. VanGee pulled a double down the right field line to score Rose and make it 6-1. Berryhill, who pitched the final four innings, worked three pop ups in the final four batters to compete the St. Lawrence sweep.
Ferguson had three hits in game two to make it five on the day, while Rose and Rotundo added a pair. Fritz earned her fourth win of the year from the circle.
With two wins on the day, St. Lawrence is now 7-17 on the year and 3-3 in the Liberty League, while RIT drops to 3-23-1 and 0-6 in the league. The Saints return to Saints' Softball Field on April 22
nd for a senior day doubleheader against Rochester.
