After going down 3-0 to start the day in doubles, the Saints stormed back but barely missed completing their comeback as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis dropped a 5-4 match against RPI on Saturday afternoon at the Newell Field House.
The Scarlet and Brown fell to 5-4 on the year and 1-2 in Liberty League play, while RPI improved to 8-2 and 2-0 in league action.
The doubles round belonged to the Engineers, who took away 8-5, 8-5, and 8-1 wins.
In singles, first-years
Molly Jespersen (6-2, 6-2) and
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen (6-1, 6-0) both dominated in their matches at numbers two and four respectively.
Seniors
Caitlyn Avery and
Emily Harris also earned wins as the match drew closer. Avery, who was playing at number three, won her match 7-6 (9-7), 1-6, 10-5, while Harris won 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) to close the tight match.
RPI would take the number one and six matches for the win.
The Saints will be back in action next Saturday at Vassar College in a match that starts at 1:00 p.m.
