Women's Tennis Sweeps SUNY Geneseo 9-0

The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team delivered their second straight 9-0 sweep to start the spring as the Saints defeated SUNY Geneseo 9-0 on Saturday morning in the Newell Field House.

The win brings the Scarlet and Brown to 2-0 on the year and dropped the Knights to 4-6.

The day began in Doubles where Catherine Gamble and Molly Jespersen defeated Alex Galle and Rory Tobin at number one. At number two, Caitlyn Avery and Emily Harris dropped Kylie Seiler and Abigail Rockwood. In the final Doubles match, Meredith Macey and Maya Stepic teamed up to take down Lianna Mastro and Katie Kujawa 8-1.

In Singles, Avery and Galle had a duel at number one which saw the match draw even after 6-2, 6-7 (4-7) matches to start. In the deciding match, Avery took the 10-6 win for the Saints. At number two, Angelica Aksdal-Jansen left no doubt with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rory Tobin.

Maya Stepic and Elena Styliades took care of business at numbers three and four respectively with 2-0 wins over Seiler and Rockwood. At numbers five and six, Abigail Sicuranza and Alexandra Fuller joined their first-year teammate Aksdal-Jansen in providing 6-0, 6-0 sweeps for victories.

The Scarlet and Brown will be back at Newell Field House tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. to take on Skidmore College in their last match before Spring Break.
