Ben Hutchinson scored four goals, while
Cody Sipher notched a hat trick to lead the seventh-ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 14-9 win over Western New England under the lights on Wednesday at Nickerson Field in Boston, Massachusetts.
Bobby Wells added two goals and three assists for the Saints, while
Chase Malatesta finished with a goal and two assists.
Judge Murphy,
Ben Kniskern,
Cam Croasdaile and
Paddy Condon also scored for the Scarlet and Brown Condon went 11-for-19 from the faceoff circle and picked up a team-high nine ground balls, while
Christian Warren had five pickups.
Joe Scarfi finished with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
The game got off to an evenly paced start. The Saints scored the first two and were followed up by two from the Bears. Murphy tallied his 16th of the season and the Bears tallied one more to tie it up 3-3 after the first quarter.
St. Lawrence pulled away to start the second, scoring four straight, including back-to-back goals from Hutchinson. The Bears closed the quarter with two more, but the Saints held on to a 7-5 edge at halftime.
The Saints defense held the Bears to just one goal in the third and scored four of their own to take a 13-6 lead with 15 minutes to go.
Both teams finished with three apiece in the fourth and the Saints secured their sixth straight win.
"I thought Western New England battled hard throughout," said head coach
Mike Mahoney. "I thought we had some guys step up at important points in the game which was great to see."

Thomas Labbe and James Wrynn each scored two goals for the Bears, while Chris Catuosco finished with a team-best six ground balls.
Michael Marinello made six stops for the Scarlet and Brown, while Jonathon Salsbury made 16 for the Bears.
St. Lawrence outshot the Golden Bears 38-31 including 30-15 in shots on goal, while Western New England picked up 37 ground balls to the Saints' 36. Both teams finished with 13 wins in the faceoff circle.
With the win, the Saints improved to 6-0, while Western New England fell to 1-6.
The Saints will continue their spring break trek to the Capital Region and open Liberty League play at fifth-ranked Union on Saturday, March 25 at 1 p.m.
