First-year standout
Molly Jespersen went 2-0 on the day, but a couple of tight matches went by way of the Blugolds as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team fell 5-4 to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Monday morning in Orlando, Florida.
The Saints fell to 2-2 on the year with the loss.
In a close Doubles round, the Blugolds came out on top 2-1.
Catherine Gamble and Jespersen were able to clinch a win at number one defeating Clare Palen, and Samantha Fuchs 8-6. At numbers two and three, the tandems of
Caitlyn Avery and
Emily Harris along with
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and
Elena Styliades each dropped narrow matches 8-7 (7-4).
In Singles, Jespersen took on Morgan Nelson at number three and won handily 6-2, 6-1. At number four, Aksdal Jansen lined up against Anna lee and took a 6-3, 7-5 victory. Harris earned the fourth win at number five against Morgan Dekan taking a 6-2, 6-1 win.
The Scarlet and Brown will be back on the courts tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. when the team takes on Luther College.
