Ben Hutchinson scored four goals and
Judge Murphy tallied five points to lead the No. 10 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 16-7 win over Bates at the Mustang Classic hosted by Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon in Owing Mills, Maryland.
Ben Hutchinson also picked up three ground balls, while Murphy recorded two goals and three assists.
Zadoc White recorded a pair of goals and a pair of assists, while
Stew Hutchinson and
Bobby Wells also scored twice for the Saints.
Mark Mahoney and
Chase Malatesta finished with a goal and two assists, while
Cody Sipher and
John Mahoney each scored once.
Paddy Condon went 10-for-19 from the faceoff circle and picked up six ground balls, while
Brendan Brigham finished 3-for-6. Seven different Saints caused one turnover in the win.
St. Lawrence opened the game with a quick three-goal run in the first seven minutes of play, Wil Masterson tallied two goals and
Mark Mahoney also scored to give the Scarlet and Brown a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.
The Bobcats held a slight edge in the second, outscoring the Saints 3-2 to come within one at the break.
Masterson scored the first goal of the second half to tie the game 6-6, but the Saints buckled down after that, scoring the next three with a pair of goals from White and one from Hutchinson to increase their lead back to 9-6.
St. Lawrence surged on going on a 10-1 run through the remainder of the third and shutting out the Bobcats 3-0 in the fourth quarter to secure their fifth straight win.
"That was a good response in the second half," said head coach
Mike Mahoney. "We knew Bates would come to play and they certainly did. I'm really proud of the attention to detail and execution in a back-to-back scenario. Hats off to Stevenson for hosting a first-class event that we were proud to be a part of."

Masterson led the Bobcats with four goals, while Jackson Williams picked up a team-best five ground balls and went 8-for-20 in the faceoff circle and five different members of the Bobcats squad caused a turnover.
Michael Marinello made eight saves between the pipes and picked up five ground balls for the Scarlet and Brown, while Garrett FitzSimons made 16 for Bates.
The Saints outshot Bates 45-29 and picked up 31 ground balls to the Bobcats' 22. St. Lawrence held a 14-12 faceoff edge and finished 1-for-5 on man-up opportunities, while Bates went 1-for-3.
St. Lawrence remains undefeated at 5-0 on the season, sweeping its games at the Mustang Classic, while Bates fell to 0-5.
The Saints will continue their spring break road trip and head up to Boston, Massachusetts to play Western New England at Boston University on Wednesday, March 22 at 7 p.m.
